Web Development

Current web projects:
Football Picks A private site for football picks "gamblers".
FCVN Chicago PHP and MySql project
My Omega Site This is the site that you are currently on. I do some PHP here as well.
vbXzone My programming information site. A nice hobby of mine that has attracted quite a few of visitors
Utils I have these small 4 utilities that you might want to have a look at. These are utils for my blog (2) and for web development (1). The last one is just there for historical purposes.

Web Development I look at web development more as a hobby than some really serious interest. That's why I seperated this section from application development. I have been (and still am) a webmaster for several sites (I started with high school's web site. Currently my biggest involvement in web area is Football Picks site).

ASP, ASP.NET ASP was my first server side scripting technology that I learned. I remember that great summer of me browsing through the stacks of printed pages in school computer lab and trying to understand how this server programming works. ASP was easy and I think I mastered it quite well. Being able to build COM components with VB helped to increase performace in several web applications as well. ASP.NET is the newest creature in web programming that comes from Redmond. I like it and I already built rather sophisticated web application for IEEE competition me and my good friend took part in.

PHP Thanks to Ondrej Hrebicek, a good friend of mine, for creating Omega. It's a server loaded with excellent linux platform tools available for all IIT students who set up an account there. Omega's server is the main server for my PHP and MySql programming. There I also started a project for prof. Bauer. Once it is over, I will put up a link.

CSS CSS is something I started using last year as well. Right now I feel CSS is an excellent way of organizing your web content, and if you are serious about web development, please learn CSS. I just wish that IE and Mozilla would implement CSS the same way. Actually current versions of these browsers do a good job with several exceptions here and there.

Knowing XSLT and XML can help From the day I learned XSLT, I built several style sheets that I use with Xerces XSLT processor to produce content for my educational site ( vbXzone). I just build content in XML, run through with the processor, and the result is a HTML page that I can upload. I'm planning to put a page here demonstrating this. Hopefully that will get some people to appreciate the power of XML and technologies that come with it.
