Whereas, the mission statement of the IIT Greek Council is
We the men and women of the Greek Council at Illinois Institute of Technology endeavor to better student life by supporting Greek leadership throughout the Institute, encouraging communication between chapters and the Institute, and promoting the Greek community. We will hold ourselves accountable to our member chapters and to ourselves. We will serve as a representative body for the member chapters and welcome them to voice their opinions free of judgment or negative criticism. We will promote high scholastic achievement, encourage diversity among our membership, stimulate the growth of the Greek community, foster social interaction amongst member chapters and the greater community, and maintain respect for one another as fellow Greeks. As these are the cornerstones of Greek life at Illinois Institute of Technology, we will strive always to better ourselves through this mission;
Whereas, the IIT Greek Council has seen sustained growth and development into a legitimate campus governing organization;
Whereas, the IIT Greek Council has committed itself to the improvement and advancement of both the Council and the greater Greek Community;
Whereas, a strong vision for the development of the Council is necessary to sustain growth and a unified organizational direction;
Whereas, the IIT Greek Council identified several areas of focus for the upcoming years of 2006-2008 that will help achieve our mission and goals;
Therefore let it be resolved, the IIT Greek Council commits itself to excellence in fulfilling our mission statement and the following organizational goals:
Develop a strong academic community through Greek wide programming and resource sharing each semester;
Display a strong public image for the IIT Greek Community, both inside and outside the greater IIT community, in alignment with the strong values and excellent activities of its members;
Provide a unified voice and direction for the Greeks of IIT, emphasizing cooperation amongst chapters and collaborative efforts with the university;
Provide leadership training and member education opportunities for the members of fraternities and sororities at IIT, including conferences, retreats, workshops, and other resources;
Facilitate the growth of the community and recruitment of new members by providing recruitment opportunities and training and support for associate members of Greek Council;
Hold our community accountable to itself by using fair and consistent judicial processes when necessary, establishing rules in the best interest of all, and maintaining support and legitimacy for Greek Council's rulings;
Encourage high achievement amongst chapters through implementation of a well supported and completed Chapter Achievement Program each year;
Develop into a leading campus organization that has campus-wide programming and impact and establishes positive relationships with the university and other major student organizations and constituencies;
Develop and maintain a high level of operations with regard to the organization and history of Greek Council, by fully utilizing our office, turnover retreats, and governing documents to increase organizational memory and consistency;
Strive for high achievement as a Greek governing council by participating in the Mid-American Greek Council Association conference and awards submissions each year;
Strive for continuous improvement by examining the goals, progress, and vision of the Council each semester in order to maintain alignment with the needs and values of members and the greater mission of the Council as a whole.
And let it be further resolved, that all the past, present, and future officers, chairs, and members of Greek Council are committed to fulfilling the mission of the Council and this vision of excellence for the upcoming years.
